Overview
The 991.1 Carrera 4 is equipped with the same 3.4l flat-six, 350hp engine as in the 2-wheel drive Carrera, however it has the added benefit of an amazing AWD system and wider rear tyres. This makes this car easy to drive for anyone who jumps in the seat. There is a weight penalty due to the differences of 50kg, but this car is still up to 65kg lighter than it’s 997.2 predecessor. The weight makes barely any difference to the 0-60mph time, for example on PDK the Carrera’s time is 4.6 seconds, compared to the Carrera 4’s of 4.7 seconds.
The Carrera 4 came available as the standard “Carrera 4″, the Carrera 4″S” and the all-new “GTS” model. All models were available with the world’s-first 7-Speed Manual gearbox, or PDK, which is “Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe”, translated to “Porsche Double Clutch Transmission”. The gearbox price difference was of approx £2,000 more for the PDK. On average, most buyers of this car spend £10,000 over the normal price in optional extras. The most desired extra was the £1,700 Sports Chrono option, with a button to change the noise of the exhaust, and added a sports exhaust to the vehicle.
