Overview
A new generation of 911 always has brought sleeker looks and more technology, but with the 991 the most noticeable change was the build quality, with a host of new options available and improved drivability. It came standard with leather, electronic climate-control, Porsche’s communication management system with Bluetooth and Sat Nav, and one of the best traction control systems of any car ever made. These luxuries alongside the 3.4l, flat-six engine that produces 345hp engine, is why this Carrera is a sports car you truly can live with every day.
This model was longer, wider and due to the body being partly made out of aluminium, it is also lighter than the previous 997 model. Another change to the 911, was the decision the move from a hydraulic power assistance system, to an electric one, which at the time worried fans, however it still drives and responds brilliantly.
The Carrera came available as the standard “Carrera”, the Carrera “S” and the all-new “GTS” model. All models were available with the world’s-first 7-Speed Manual gearbox, or PDK, which is “Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe”, translated to “Porsche Double Clutch Transmission”. The gearbox price difference was of approx £2,000 more for the PDK. On average, most buyers of this car spend £10,000 over the normal price in optional extras. The most desired extra was the £1,700 Sports Chrono option, with a button to change the noise of the exhaust, and added a sports exhaust to the vehicle.
