Overview

The 981 model year is where the Cayman really came to life. In the 981 series came the GT4 for the first time, and the Cayman GTS.  Focusing on the entry Cayman, the 981 makes major improvements throughout. The new Cayman is a 2.7-litre engine producing 275hp, available as both 6-speed manual and 7-speed PDK. The 2.7 manual will get you a 0-60mph time of just 5.5 seconds, which is great performance considering that this isn’t the S, GTS or GT4 variant.

The design changes are fantastic, with this Cayman looking much sportier and sleeker than before. It is longer, wider and lower than any Cayman before it. These design choices really make the 981 Cayman step out of the 911’s shadow. With the prices now, it may be surprising to believe that this car started at the £40k mark when new from Porsche, which is superb value for money.

After this model year, Porsche favour turbo-charged engines over naturally aspirated, making this the last naturally aspirated flat-six Porsche Cayman. This paired with a six-speed manual is a true driving experience.
